In cybersecurity, we often avoid discussing incidents. Few companies conduct post-mortems or perform in-depth analyses. We are carrying out a technical deep dive into these incidents. We try to answer these questions with the 5 whys: - Why did the incident happen? - Why was that possible? - Why did the control that should have stopped it fail? - Why wasn't it detected sooner? - Why does the underlying condition exist across the environment? What is the subject? Mainstream media covered these incidents extensively, but much of it was clickbait and presented a distorted reality. We will address each point and provide a timeline where available.
